2013 Fair Entries

Another year, another crop of fair entries. This was a very interesting year for me. I took a lot of pictures this past year, but I took a lot of pictures for people. Some, most of them were really good, but I didn't feel like I should submit those because they were for other people. These were the ones that I did submit.

New Toys

Picked up some new equipment (strobes and softboxes) this year and thought I would try it out.  Man my dog is getting old.  He was all black when we got him as a puppy, now 11 or so years later, he's getting pretty white.

Orion

I have a love/hate relationship with this constellation  It is my favorite one to look at and I look forward to watching him march across the sky every year. However, he only shows up in winter. Maybe I need to move farther south.

Anyway, I was heading home this night and there was a thin haze of clouds in the sky that diffused the starlight just a little bit, but it was enough for me to say to myself, "Wow, that's pretty cool, I should get my camera out."

Are you ready for some football?

I was lucky enough to get down onto the field and take some photos of a high school game.  Times sure have changed from when I was in school.  In my day, anybody could stand on the track and watch the game.  I'm either getting old, or I just live in a big enough town where they discourage that sort of thing.

Ponca Outdoor Expo

Took the family to the Ponca outdoor expo in Ponca, NE.  It is a annual event that draws around 40,000 people.  If you are an outdoor person, you need to check it out.  Something for everyone.

Foggy Morning

I happened to get up early one morning this summer and noticed it was foggy. I guess there are two points to make here. First, I am not much of a morning person, and second, with as dry as at has been this summer, any moisture in the air was a surprise.

Family Portrait

I ran across a family self portrait by JAHook Photo on Flickr and I had to try and take something similar.  It is a work in progress, but I thought the meteor in the center of the picture deserved a little recognition.  When we retake this photo, I will be shooting up into the sky more from a lower vantage point to try and reduce the light pollution at the horizon.

Step Falls

Downstream from Smith Falls on the Niobrara River is a less known waterfall that I think is more beautiful.  Not sure if it has a name (I'm sure it does), but I call it Stairstep Falls.
